In Step 2 of this DST foundational series, we will be taking a deep dive into the phenomenon of overwhelm – what it is and what to do with it. This will open the door to understanding what trauma is, biologically and psychologically, and provide a method to offer true safety to the organism, which is the foundation of all successful trauma recovery.

In Step 2, we will learn what overwhelm is, psychologically and neurologically (mind and body), and we will explore:

    • What makes us susceptible to overwhelm
    • What and how overwhelm is triggered
    • The biological responses of overwhelm
    • What the antidote to overwhelm is
    • What accumulated stress is and how it contributes to overwhelm
    • The concept of psycho-bio-residue — baggage
    • Locating hidden, less obvious signs of internal overwhelm
    • How the body goes into a freeze state as protection from overwhelm and what to do about it
    • How to work with dialogue to help clients voice the sensations of overwhelm
    • How to enhance your invitational language skills
    • How to speak the language of the body:
      • The art of pausing and sensing
      • Verbal emptying
      • Expression
      • Postponing conclusions
      • Dropping into deeper levels of experience
      • Curiosity/Exploration
      • Tracking experience
    • We will also take your touch skills and touch facilitation ability to the next level with more advanced additions to what you learned in Step 1.

Dynamic Somatic Touch (DST) is a new Trauma and life approach model developed to expedite the work of trauma resolution and the unwinding of body based dysfunctional patterns. It is a melding of Ortho-Bionomy®, Somatic Psychotherapy, Osteopathy, Focusing, Psychophysiology, Biodynamic and Depth Psychology as well as several western and eastern philosophies.

DST encourages, supports, and makes possible the permanent alleviation of long held bodily limitations, nervous system activation, and limiting belief systems. Through the incorporation of touch, narrative, and empathetic presence, students are empowered to master the effective resolution of difficult and painful emotional, bodily, and mental experiences.
